Denver Nuggets win first championship in team history

The Denver Nuggets won the NBA Championship Monday for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Miami Heat 4 games to 1. Nikola Jokic was named Finals MVP. The Serbian star is now a 2-time NBA MVP, and an NBA Finals MVP and champion.

The Nuggets were the #1 seed in the Western Conference, with a record of 53-29. They cruised past the Minnesota Timberwolves in Round 1, then knocked off the Phoenix Suns in the Conference Semis and swept the Los Angeles Lakers in the Conference Finals. After game 2, it seemed like Miami would put up a fight, but in games 3 and 4, the Nuggets dominated the Heat, setting up a championship-clinching game 5, where Denver eked out a win.

I was impressed by the Nuggets showing throughout the playoffs, and Jokic was incredible. He was a triple-double machine, and defenses couldn't seem to stop him. Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke has has five sports championships in 16 months now. Although I dislike Kroenke and Jokic, I can't deny how dominant this team is.
