Michael Lorenzen throws no-hitter in first home start

Philadelphia Phillies newly acquired pitcher Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter in yesterday's (August 9th) 7-0 win for the Phillies over the Washington Nationals. It was the first no-hitter thrown by a Phillies pitcher since Cole Hamels in his last Phillies start in 2015, and the first one at Citizens Bank Park since Roy Halladay in the 2010 NLDS. It was also Lorenzen's first start at CBP as a member of the Phillies. Lorenzen previously was a Cincinnati Red for six seasons, then signed with the LA Angels in 2022. He then signed with the Detroit Tigers this past offseason, then was traded to Philly at the trade deadline.

This was an amazing feat that Lorenzen pulled off. Not only did this happen, but Weston Wilson hit a home run in his first MLB at-bat, and Nick Castellanos hit his 200th home run of his career. It was a magical game for the Phillies, and a huge boost as they continue their push to the playoffs. This is going to be a big locker room boost, because it will energize the team and give them a huge boost that they need to go to the playoffs and go deep in the playoffs. Could they do it? Absolutely. But will they do what they did last year and go all the way to the World Series? We'll see.
