The 2023 MLB playoffs are finally here, which means it's time to make my predictions for the whole field. I'll be predicting each field from the Wild Card Series to the World Series, starting with the NL.
NL Wild Card Series
Diamondbacks vs Brewers: Brewers in 2
Marlins vs Phillies: Phillies in 3
The Brewers shouldn't have a problem with Arizona. Personally, the Diamondbacks are probably too young right now. But the Marlins-Phillies series is definitely one to watch. The Marlins were one of the biggest surprise teams in the league, and the Phillies being the reigning NL champs and maybe the most fun team in the league.
AL Wild Card Series
Rangers vs Rays: Rays in 3
Blue Jays vs Twins: Blue Jays in 2
The Rangers vs Rays could be the best Wild Card Series, period. The Rays got off to an incredibly hot start in April, and despite cooling off, they still finished as a 99-win team. The Rangers are also a 90-win team, and came second in the AL West on head-to-head tiebreaker. As for Toronto vs Minnesota, the Twins haven't even won a playoff game, let alone series, in 19 years, and they haven't shown me enough to convince me that they'll end that streak.
NLDS
Phillies vs Braves: Phillies in 5
Brewers vs Dodgers: Brewers in 4
I know what you're probably thinking. I'm a biased Phillies fan, and that's why I chose them to beat Atlanta. But if they showed me anything in their pennant-winning season, it's to never, EVER, count them out. Yes, the Braves might be even better than they were last year, but that doesn't stop me from picking them.
The Dodgers are notorious for choking in the playoffs, and I wouldn't be shocked if history repeated itself. Also, the Brewers are a sleeper team to make a deep playoff run.
ALDS
Rays vs Orioles: Orioles in 5
Blue Jays vs Astros: Astros in 4
The Rays-Orioles series would be another must-watch series if it happens. It'd be a matchup of two division rivals where one won 101 games and the other won 99. It'd also be the first playoff game at Camden Yards in 9 years.
The Blue Jays are a very solid team, but the Astros are even better. That'll also be a fantastic series.
NLCS
Phillies vs Brewers: Phillies in 6
Again, I'm not being biased (okay, maybe slightly biased). I honestly do think the Phillies are the better team of the two. No disrespect to Milwaukee. I actually have tons of respect for Craig Counsell.
ALCS
Astros vs Orioles: Astros in 6
I'd pick the Orioles here if they weren't dealing with so many injuries. The losses of Felix Bautista and Keegan Akin will likely damage Baltimore's opponent. And a banged-up bullpen is the last thing they need going into a series with a team as talented as Houston.
Before I reveal my World Series prediction, I just want you to know I'm not being lazy by picking a rematch of last year's World Series or biased by picking the Phillies to make it. I honestly believe that Philly and Houston are the most talented teams from their respected leagues. Now for my prediction.
World Series
Astros vs Phillies: Astros in 7
World Series MVP prediction: Alex Bregman (HOU 3B)
I can 100% see this World Series going the distance. These two are now familiar with each other and possibly as talented as each other. But in the end, the Astros defend their title and defeat the Phillies once again.
What do you think?
