Lions vs Chiefs preview

The 2023-24 NFL season is finally here, and that means it's time to predict the Kickoff Game. In the Kickoff Game, it's the Detroit Lions and the defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs. I'll be going into detail on each team and who I think will ultimately win the game.

The Detroit Lions surprised a lot of people last year by going 9-8 and nearly making it to the playoffs. Jared Goff looked solid, throwing for 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions. Running back Jamaal Williams ran for 1,066 yards and 17 touchdowns. Although they lost Williams and D'Andre Swift, they signed David Montgomery and drafted Jahmyr Gibbs. The Lions also brought back receiver Marvin Jones Jr. and have 2nd-year receiver Jameson Williams, although Williams was suspended for 6 games. So, the Lions have a lot to be excited about.

The Kansas City Chiefs obviously won Super Bowl LVII last year, although there was a controversial defensive holding call that set up the game-winning field goal. They have a legitimate chance to defend their title. They have the reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes, as well as the best tight end in the game in Travis Kelce. They also have Marquez Valdes-Scantling at receiver and Isiah Pacheco at running back. Andy Reid is an outstanding coach, and he's shown that these past five years. He's called some great plays over the years, and no one knows what he'll be cooking up this year.

Now for the moment you've all been waiting for: my prediction. I think this will be closer than most people are expecting. Dan Campbell's Lions are gonna give Kansas City everything they've got. But in the end.....

Prediction: Chiefs win 30-24

Mahomes and Kelce are gonna torch Detroit's secondary. Aidan Hutchinson will probably give KC's offensive line a tough time, but it won't be enough.
